Ashley Todd Attacked By Obama Supporter Because That’s How They Roll

Uh, no. Ashley Todd was attacked by a criminal, because that’s how criminals roll. Now, I’m gonna assume she really got attacked, but that kind of attack is kind of unusual. I’m glad for Ashley, but usually someone who mutilates will kill pretty easily. Folks like Ashley would normally end up dead, and there are psychological disorders where people seek attention by faking illness or injury, and this is sure one way to get attention. I assume there’s enough corroborating evidence. It’s just a little strange.

Ashley Todd Had a Run in With a Criminal. Obama Supporter is NOT THE POINT.

Ashley Todd Had a Run in With a Criminal. Obama Supporter is NOT THE POINT.

But, assuming my paranoia is unjustified and it really happened, it’s not–like every conservative blog seems to be saying–an “Obama Supporter” that attacked her any more than it is a “wearer of pants”–you know how those people who wear pants are, after all. It’s a criminal, who was intent on robbing her anyway. Maybe he likes broadway musicals, too. Does it say anything about other people who like broadway musicals?

Come on, pipples. Use your brains.

Obama doesn’t want people getting attacked and beaten up because they support McCain, and it really has nothing to do with it. Obama wants to take your money, strangle your business, and put as much of the private sector in the hands of the government as possible, so geniuses like him can micromanage everything into Utopia.

That’s plenty bad enough. That this story is getting so much traction with the words “Obama supporter” attached to it is a little sad.

People who have mental and emotional problems use lots of things to justify their bad behaviors, or respond negatively to triggers. Ideology is one of those things, but that says nothing about the ideology in and of itself, just the criminal.

I’m all for votin’ Palin/McNugget in November, but not because you can attach a random lunatic to an Obama Supporter. Franklin Raines, Jim Johnson, William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright–go ahead and attach Obama to them all you want. He had a role there. He ain’t got nothing to do with this.

All right. I’m done. Laterz, Internets. Less stuff tomorrow, as, like Obama, I gotta be putting family first. See you sporadically tomorrow and/or over the weekend. Out.

I really hate to say this, because plenty of people get hurt every day and it’s awful to ever question them, but — there’s something fishy about this story.

That B is backward, as though done in a mirror (or at the very least, done by someone positioned ABOVE Todd’s head as she lay on the ground). It’s on a cheek, the fleshiest part of your face, very hard to get any sort of consistent pattern on, and that B is very well-formed, with controlled, uniform curves. At no point does the “knife” used ever actually break the skin.

I’m probably a horrible person, but it’s too much for me to believe that some giant black dude saw a bumper sticker, lost his mind, beat up this girl, then left her totally mobile by crouching on the other side of her head to carefully shape an Arial-font B on her (immobile?) cheek with either admirably restrained knifework or a butterknife. And then ran off.

Maybe she’s pissed at the coverage of unflattering McCainiacs and wanted to turn the tables. Maybe she wants more attention at home. Maybe she’s realized that volunteers who get beaten up also tend to get personal phone calls from candidates (…and she has). But however you look at this, there are enough strange elements to make you wonder if this certain scenario could ever happen.

The lack of severity makes me question it. Normally, these kind of attackers–especially going so far as to “carve” a B–are not restrained. She would be a lot more seriously messed up. Someone accustomed to hurting or cutting themselves for attention or out of depression will tend to be more restrained. And, reality is, this makes things a lot more exciting for her right now. And some people are (this doesn’t make them evil) addicted to that kind of excitement.

I’ve done worse to myself trying to use a hammer to dislodge a stuck garage door. Not trying to be unsympathetic, it may have all gone down just like she says.

Just if I’m a McCain supporter–which I am–I wouldn’t jump on this story as some kind of negative for Obama. Cuz it might be the opposite.

This does not look like a “brutal attack” – notice that the “black eye” does not seem to have any swelling? Compare right eye with left eye – not for color – but for size / shape / deformation. For the type of trauma that she claims – one would expect substantial (or at least some) swelling to accompany the “black & blue”.
As for the “B” – this is quite absurd – a “thug” violently attacks and then carefully makes a “backwards B” – all without breaking the skin? – so the “thug” was being very careful to make sure that 2 or 3 months from now, there would not be a scar?
Certainly hope this young woman gets all the help that she needs.

  4. 4 Clearly a hoax. October 24, 2008 at 3:44 am

This is clearly a hoax. The woman needs help. I hope she gets it. Too bad for her, her actions will probably have more of a negative effect on McCain than positive.

ROTFLMAO at all the Republican sheep. Tomorrow this chick is going to be the laughing stock of the world. This story is just absurd on so many levels.

  6. 6 memetrics October 24, 2008 at 12:12 pm

Then I’m guessing the consensus is it was a fake. No one gonna defend it? Okee-dokee then. Hoax.

Very strange pre-election events going on. And, no, this isn’t going to hurt McCain anymore than it would have hurt Obama had she actually been attacked (which she might have been, I leave it for the police to make that decision). It ain’t got nothin’ to do with nothin’.

This story is a HOAX. Todd has now admitted it and she will likely face charges

This is clearly not a hoax. After all, several conservative commentators I trust used this event to suggest that Obama supporters are clearly out of control, and that this is the sort of fascist intimidation we can expect from an Obama presidency. And the conservative commentators I listen to always respect facts, argue logically, and look to both sides.

  9. 9 memetrics October 25, 2008 at 12:44 am

Well I’m a conservative commentator, and I’m saying it looks like a hoax and the first thing I said was that it looked hoaxy. So how does that square with your analysis? Oh, wait. It doesn’t.

This says this is a troubled young lady. That’s it. Just like I said it said nothing about Obama if the far-fetched tale ended up being true.

  10. 10 Memeticsjoker October 25, 2008 at 3:31 am

You have egg (and bull feces) all over your face, memetrics. You’d be shitten a kitten if this Todd hoax had been factual. But it’s not. It WAS however cooked up by some of McCain’s cronies (do a little fact checking and you’ll see who was pushing the “story”). Of course your retorts that this was “a troubled young lady” mitigate any of the nasty doings that took place in giving this story any traction to begin with. Get over yerself.

  11. 11 memetrics October 25, 2008 at 12:27 pm

Bull Hockey, Memetics. Your accusing me of what you are doing. It’s called projection. Let me explain.

I said it was likely a hoax from the very outset, and you know it. And if it wasn’t a hoax, I said what? That it said nothing about Obama or his supporters or anything else.

“If it was real” I said–up above, the day the story broke–that is said nothing about Obama or his supporters. Did you read the post, yaw dumbazzledazzle?

Now, Memetics, ask yourself: how credible does the idea that some McCain cornies cooked up the ass-stupid, easy-to-debunk, idiotic, immediately suspicious to even a rock-ribbed Reagan Republican like me strategy seem? As a strategy for “saying something” about Obama supporters, this was a strategy of tragedy, as it was doomed from the getgo.

Occam’s razor. Look it up. Hurting yourself for attention, often with elaborate and hard to believe stories, has a long and storied history. McCain cornballs planning all this as some sort of election strategy makes zero sense, unless you like to wear tinfoil hats and read the secrete Bible Code to predict the End Days, Doomsayer.

    Have fun, dumb-bunnies.

Seriously, you disappoint me, Internetz. Try harder next time.

And Memetrics shuts down yet another Internet-goer.

    What’s the score now? 999999-0?????
