Yes, I’m Looking at DirecTV Again, But . . .

There are always interesting offers for Direct TV, especially if you still us cable (in my case, Comcast) like I do. But I have a bundled Cable/Internet account and can still do something with the basic cable signal I can’t do with DirecTV . . . I can split it and send it all over the house. I think we have 6 TVs fed with basic cable now. For no additional cost whatsoever. I can find no way to do that with sattelite television. Just can’t.

Boy, if only I just had one or two TVs. The prices, especially for new sign up, just can’t be beat with DirectTV. There’s a 200+ with HD DVR HD package that’s just $54.99 a month  . . . admittedly only for the first 12 months, but still. For a basic family entertainment package for $29.99, which is apparently the every day low price. Only 45+ channels, not quite as good as cable, but it’s a great price . . . almost nothing available from the cable companies that amounts to $30 bucks a month. Still, there’s no easy, inexpensive way to share that signal among multiple TVs, not to mention no way to make it possible for one person to watch something in the living room while someone else watches something different in the bedroom and somebody else watches something else in the kitchen, which happens a lot in my house.

Then there’s the Internet. I can get DSL, but I end up paying the same amount for Internet access that I do now. Satellite television is a better deal for people who don’t need a lot of TVs going.

All of which isn’t to say it’s not possible to have a house with seven TVs hooked up to your DirectTV. It’s just not cheap, and thus not practical for me. And I believe I have to have one or two extra satellite dishes installed to boot. Sigh.

 

Continental To Add DirectTV to Domestic Flights in a Bid To Avoid Complete Irrelevance

Continental Airlines has come up with an interesting idea. Continental is Adding DirectTV to 15 of it’s airplanes as part of a new service that gives domestic fliers access to 77 channels of live television programming. Interesting. I didn’t know Continental Airlines was still in business. I thought they’d gone the way of Braniff.

Ah. The magic of Direct TV Service.  If only it were cheaper. My dad has Direct TV and he likes it, but still, add up DSL and the cost of a Direct TV System and I’m not sure I’d be any better off, money wise. Not to mention, I can still split up the cable in my home so it goes to a dozen TVs. That’s important.

Did you know a Continental Airlines pilot recently died, mid-flight? Plane landed safely, though. Three cheers for Continental!

How Satellite TV Works. A lot more complicated and expensive than land-based cable, and yet satellite TV is often more feature-rich and lower-cost than cable!

Just a little more while I’m pondering the many a various ways Direct TV is superior to cable. I’m sure there’s something like the following for Direct T V crowd, but as much and as bitter as there are about the cable companies? I don’t think so.

There are websites like ComcastSucks.org. There’s a forum where everyone complaints about Comcast (the caveat oftening being about the speed of their Internet service, most of the time, of course).

I gotta figure a way to switch to some combo of DSL and DirecTV. So I could watch more old Mel Gibson movies. How’s that for a segue?

Mel Gibson Is Back On the Market! Women Worldwide Celebrate!

That’s right, Mel Gibson is back on the market, ladies. Mel’s soon-to-be-ex, Robyn Gibson, has filed for divorced. Important factoids? No pre-nup, and Robyn cites irreconcilable differences as being why she wants to get out. Sources tell me (that would be the voices in my head) that the irreconcilable difference in question is, in fact, Mel Gibson’s beard.

Oh, and Mel apparently was hanging out in Costa Rica with a “stunning Russian musician named Oksana”. Yeah, that might have contributed.
